General Information
Coconut shreds Are ‘grated’ coconut chunks, commonly in long, narrow slices. However, even though they are dry, they retain more moisture than desiccated coconuts do. Desiccated coconut is finely powdered coconut rather than larger strips.
If the recipe does not mention which type of coconut you require, use your best judgment. Is it savoury? Use sugar-free. Do you want to bake something sweet? Whatever you have on hand can be used. As for desiccated, flakes, or shredded, you can use your best judgment there, too. Your dishes will have more texture if the coconut chunks are larger than average. And you can have more cream and moister if you use shredded coconuts. Any way you look at it, you’ll end up with a beautiful dish.
Serving suggestions
Coconut shreds add a distinctive cream and crunch to any plate, elevating the texture profile in different ways. And 70% of the consumers surveyed said that they knew or recognised specific textures in a bowl.

Shredded Coconuts FAQ
How does this taste by itself? Is it sweet to the taste?
It just tastes like coconut, very slightly sweet like coconut flesh. If you have a recipe that calls for sweetened coconut, this won’t work.
Can you eat this without cooking, like added to a smoothie?
Yes, you can create simple recipes without any cooking.
Should I use sweetened or unsweetened with baking. Recipes don\'t tell you?
The recipe should specify which to use. However, most recipes expect you to use sweetened flaked coconut.
What is the difference between the shredded and flakes, besides the price?
Unlike shredded or desiccated, flaked coconut is much larger.
