Plums are juicy, delicious and very nutritious fruits that are eaten raw or dried as a sweet-tasted snack. In cooking, plums are commonly used to flavour baked goods and make jams and sauces. 

Dried plums are also called prunes; however, not all plums are prunes. Prunes only come from certain plum varieties. Prunes are mostly made of European plums.  

Dried plums have a high nutritional value and are a rich, healthy snack on their own or with walnuts and roasted almonds. It can be a great sweetener to substitute for sugar in smoothies and milkshakes. You can also add prunes in savoury dishes, jams or purees.   

Notice that prunes are in the “birch pollen” category of allergens, and some people are allergic to them and may cause itching and swelling of the mouth or throat.

Best Way to Use Dried Plum Slices
