General Information
If you like the taste of chopped onion but don’t want to go through the trouble of peeling, dicing, and weeping, dried chopped onions are the perfect solution. Our McCormick dried onions are made from sliced, dehydrated, and diced whole white onions. They take on a toastier, richer taste during the drying process than makes them tastier than fresh onions and ideal for adding sweet onion flavour to a range of recipes. Use them to add colour and taste to dips, soups, stews, casseroles, side dishes, hamburgers, pasta sauces, and other dishes. They’re delicious in raw potato and bean salads. The toasty, mildly sweet scent of gently sautéed fresh onions wafts from the open bottle with only a whiff.
It also lasts longer than fresh onions and can be used quickly and easily – just add a few pinches into your dishes like the way you would normally add the fresh onion.
Best Ways to Use Dried Onions
Any recipe that calls for fresh onions can be made with chopped dried onions. If the recipe contains liquid, such as a broth, slow-cooked soup, chilli, or salad dressing, add the dried onions after the liquid has been added.
You may want the onions to hydrate first for fast-fixed recipes such as chopped vegetables and bean salads, baked chicken and fish. Soak them for about five minutes in warm water. Drain the water and continue with the recipe.
The taste of dried onions is stronger than that of fresh onions. To equal 1/2 cup chopped fresh onion, only two tablespoons of dried onions would be enough.
Storage
You can store dried onions for several months by keeping them in a dry, dark, cool and well-ventilated place. Do not store it under the detergent as it may absorb moisture and become irritable.
The surplus can be packed in plastic bags or plastic containers after food preparation and put in the fridge, so in this situation. Dried onion can be kept for up to two months
