General Information

Saffron is an extremely labour-intensive crop. Do you know why it is so valuable? It is derived from the stigmas of the saffron crocus flower only can grow and be harvested in special weather. Each flower has three tiny, threadlike stigmas in the centre. These must be removed by hand and so carefully toasted to dry. To have one pound of saffron, more than 80,000 crocus flowers must be grown, cared for, hand-harvested and processed; that’s why it costs these much.

Saffron FAQ

I want to use a pinch of this in a face mask; will it easily grind into a powder?

It would be better if you soak the saffron thread in cold milk for an hour and allow the natural color to develop before using as a mask instead of grinding.

Is this product OK for baking?

Yes, you can crumble it into some of the liquid in your recipe.

What flavor is this?

Saffron has a slightly pungent floral flavor. Saffron has a very rich and subtle honey flavor as well.

Sargol and super Negin. What’s the difference?

Sargol: means “Top of the flower” in Persian. Sargol is a sub-type of Persian saffron that derives from the very tip of the saffron thread. Hence, its name “top of flower.” It also has a specific, powerful aroma. Generally speaking, Sargol saffron is considered to be high quality due to its lack of Yellow or Orange threads. Sargol can be easily recognized thanks to its full and deep red color and short threads. On the downside, Sargol saffron often contains crumbs and broken threads.

Super Negin: The most expensive and rare trim of Saffron. Super Negin saffron is known not only for being the most potent but also for its aesthetically pleasing features. Super Negin threads are longer in length and contain no yellow or orange threads. The threads are cut symmetrically and contain no crumbs. When comparing all the trims of Saffron, Super Negin is the most sought after for those who want the best of the best.

I want to use this in a hot milk drink. Are the threads edible, or should I remove them before consuming?

Our Saffron is totally safe for consumption. There are actually many health benefits in consuming the threads, as long as you’re not taking too much. We recommend 30mg or less per serving. As for the Saffron Milk, we’ve noticed great results when boiling the milk with the Saffron and letting it steep for about 10 minutes. It allows time for the Saffron to release its full Flavor and Color.

Do I need to remove the threads for making tea?

The Saffron threads are safe to consume, it’s not necessary to remove them. We recommend about 6-8 threads per cup of tea.

Is there any other things added to this?

No, only beautiful fresh saffron!

Is it natural color or dye?

Our Saffron is 100% pure and natural. We lab test our saffron. You can also test at home by putting a few threads in cold water, dyed saffron will release its color immediately and the threads will turn white or clear.
