Matcha is a special type of Japanese powdered green tea, produced by artisanal tea growers of Japan. Unlike regular green tea leaves which are ‘steeped’ in hot water, matcha leaves are ground into a fine powder, then mixed with water to create a super potent green tea, packed with nutrients.

Some people drink matcha for the taste, while many more Aussie’s are turning to matcha for the incredible health benefits. You get the purest matcha powder packed with vital antioxidants and nutrients missing from most North American diets like EGCG, Vitamin C, Iron, and Potassium.

You steep the leaves with typical green tea and then pull them out of the water to drink them. However, with matcha, you are consuming the ground down tea leaves. This multiplies the health benefits!


  • Colour: Matcha tea has a much more robust and brighter green than green tea. The more vibrant green comes from chlorophyll!
  • Taste: Premium grades of Matcha have an easily palatable taste. Matcha’s frothy texture and mildly earthy taste lead to an enjoyable beverage. Some Matcha may lead to a more bitter side, and it’s recommended you try complimenting it with sweetened cream or milk.
  • Texture: Matcha powder itself has a fine grain feel to it. Higher grades of Matcha won’t feel as coarse as lower grades of Matcha. When prepared, Matcha has a smooth texture and is thicker than traditional green tea as you’re consuming the entire leaf.
  • Processing: The finer grade Matcha uses younger leaves that have the tiniest veins and produce the finest grind. Larger leaves are used for culinary matcha purposes.
  • Nutrition: Because Matcha uses the entire ground leaf, it retains all of its nutritional properties. On the other hand, traditional green tea is packed into a tea bag and disposed of after soaking in hot water, taking much of its nutritional value with it. Matcha contains Antioxidants – Tannis – Amino Acids – Caffeine.


 Serving suggestion:

Preparing ceremonial matcha is quick and easy – just 5 minutes! You’ll need three simple tools shown below: a bowl, bamboo whisk, and measuring scoop (or teaspoon). Since you’ll whisk vigorously to achieve the beautiful foam, it’s best to use a broad and deep enough bowl (if you don’t have a matcha bowl, a soup bowl works great).  You will want to use around 1 gram of Matcha Tea powder (1/4 teaspoon) with 75ml of hot water.

Place tea bag in cup or teapot. Use one teabag per person. Using fresh boiling water, recommended infusion time is for 3- 5 minutes.



Matcha tea is available in various forms, including whole tea leaves, tea bags, and filtered iced tea. There are both single-origin and blend teas available. Whole leaf tea is usually the best quality tea.

Tea will absorb the scent of anything stored nearby, which is why we still suggest keeping your loose-leaf tea away from strong odours. This may imply that a kitchen cabinet, especially spice cabinets and pantries, is not the best option for storing your loose-leaf tea.
